Writing 2 Blog Post for Crit 1

1) My work hasn't really changed from my first blog post, but i would also like to include ducks and other birds besides state birds. The reason that I have changed this is because while studying waterfowl in my ornithology class and they are too beautiful to ignore and not illustrate. Something that I would like to try is to create two images of each illustration. I'd like to have one illustration of the flower, tree, bird, animal, etc. illustrated in black ink or pencil and I'd like to have one illustration in either gouache or art marker. I haven't decided yet which medium I would like to create the most.

Example what what I hope to be able to illustrate one day
from Peterson Field Guides

I decided to do a color version of each one to enhance my ability for future career. If I can accurately depict an organism in color, then I should be a greater asset.

2) I chose Jacque Denton's blog to look at. Oddly, I really enjoy looking at Jacque's artwork. She has a definite style that is unique to her work. I really enjoy the colors that Jacque uses, mostly black, but I also enjoy her use of neon when needed. Jacque brings about a balance in her work when it comes to line use and color. I loved the picture of Jacque herself. It was just her all the way around.

In her blog post, she said that her work expresses femininity, sexuality and imagination. While I will admit that I don't understand some of her individual pieces, it is still interesting how she visualizes and puts them together in a way that is still pleasing.

3) I attended Dr. Wu's lecture, Dr. Jamie McDaniel's lecture, Josie Mai's lecture and Maria Lupo's lecture for the Interdisciplinary Lecture Series. I learned a lot about regeneration from Dr. Wu's lecture. But I felt that Josie's talk was the one I really enjoyed the most. I hadn't realized how much had gone on with the art efforts after the tornado had hit Joplin. I found it to be really neat how they incorporated art from younger children into the mural. I'm really not sure what was relevant to me except that it helped me understand how regeneration happens in cells and other organisms.

Rudi Rodebush sent this artist my way and I thought that he was really interesting. His name is Matthew Cox and he creates artworks with embroidery that corresponds with an X-Ray.

I was super impressed with the work of this artist. I haven't seen the mixture of these media before.
